December 15, 2021 - WPO (World Packaging Organisation – www.worldpackaging.org) has the honor to reveal the winners of WorldStar 2022 the most prestigious global packaging award program, organised since 1970. Despite the tough situation of Covid-19 hitting the global economy for the second year, WorldStar management, WPO member LibanPack (www.libanpack.org), was able to attract a record number of 440 entries from 37 countries from around the globe that represent a 30% increase comparing to the previous year.
WorldStar judging process was conducted over two rounds and the online judging panel was composed of 36 international esteemed judges, representing 36 WPO countries members from all around the world. “The judges evaluated each entry so diligently, with such intentional focus and spent hours going through 440 submissions before meeting virtually, during WPO week in November, for final deliberations to choose the winners”, explains Soha Atallah, WorldStar coordinator and Vice President Conferences, Exhibitions and Awards. The 240 winners of WorldStar Packaging Awards 2022 were just announced and posted on www.worldstar.org.
The Top 4 most awarded countries of the 2022 edition are:
- Germany - 28 awards.
- Australia & New Zeeland - 27 awards
- Japan - 23 awards.
- China - 15 awards.
WPO is also happy to announce that the upcoming WordStar Award Ceremony for 2022 will take place physically on 4th May 2022, in Milan (Italy), during Ipack Ima (www.ipackima.com) show (May 3-6) in cooperation with the WPO local member, the Italian Packaging Institute (www.istitutoimballaggio.org). The winners for the special categories - President’s Award, Sustainability Award, Marketing Award and Packaging that Saves Food Award - will be also announced during WorldStar Ceremony.
“Sustainability and convenience were among the main focus for most of the entries in WorldStar 2022 in addition to other post Covid-19 trends such as hygiene, e-commerce and wellness”, states Soha Atallah. She adds: “It was our first year to manage WorldStar and we are really proud and honoured to manage such a prestigious global packaging award on behalf of WPO and to interact with impressive packaging innovations from around the world.
Packages eligible for WorldStar are those that have already received a national or regional award recognised by WPO. “The outstanding number of entries and the quality of the packages make us believe that the global packaging industry is in the right path: to provide the world more innovative and sustainable solutions that can impact positively in food waste reduction and save food initiatives, guarantying more food for more people. Our challenge does not end here. Soon we will announce new categories that will make WorldStar even more prestigious. This Award, as well as the packaging industry, is in a continuous improvement process”, celebrates WPO Senior Vice President Marketing, Luciana Pellegrino.
According to WPO President, Pierre Pienaar, “The WPO Board of Directors, who deliberated over the entries, were so excited by the high standard of innovation. They were particularly encouraged by the number of entries and some from new member countries. While sustainability remains a key and necessary consideration when designing packaging, the judges were impressed by the focus on design and graphics to enhance consumer experience.”
